About

Our Philosophy & Conservation

For us, a great day on the water is about more than the number of fish brought to hand. It is about respecting the fishery, enjoying the experience and doing our part to ensure this incredible resource remains healthy for generations to come.

Belize is home to one of the Caribbean's great flats fisheries. The Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon and Snook we pursue, and the mangroves, lagoons, rivers and flats they depend on, are a big part of what makes fishing here so special.

We make our living on this water, but more importantly, we live here and care about what happens to it. We believe guides and anglers share a responsibility to look after the fishery and leave it in good shape for those who come after us.

Responsible Angling

As an IGFA recognized Captain, Capt. Will follows IGFA practices and promotes responsible angling, ethical sport fishing and proper fish handling.

Fish welfare is a priority on every trip. We practice careful catch and release, minimize unnecessary handling and keep fish in the water whenever possible. When photographs are taken, we take them quickly and make sure the fish is strong and ready before release.

Sharing knowledge is also an important part of how we guide. Whether it is improving a cast, learning to read the water, understanding fish behavior or refining the techniques needed to target different species, our aim is to help every angler develop their skills throughout the day.

We believe a good guide does more than put clients in front of fish. It is also about helping shorten the learning curve in a calm, relaxed environment and giving anglers a better understanding of the fishery.

We don't measure a successful day solely by the number of fish caught. Conditions change and fish don't always cooperate. That is part of fishing. A successful trip should also leave you with new skills, a better understanding of the water and something you can carry forward to your next day of fishing.

Supporting Conservation

Our responsibility to the fishery doesn't end when the boat returns to the dock.

Fly Fish Belize Charters is a member of Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, supporting science based research and conservation of flats species and the habitats they depend on.

We're also members of the Belize Flats Fishery Association, working alongside fellow guides and members of Belize's fishing community to support the long term health of our flats fishery.

We believe collaboration is an important part of conservation. Fish don't recognize borders, and healthy fisheries depend on connected habitats that extend far beyond any individual flat, river or coastline.

Research, shared knowledge and cooperation between guides, scientists, conservation organizations and local communities help us better understand the fishery and make better decisions about how we protect it.
